Incoming Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) Settings
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) SettingsOver 95% of outgoing mail issues are related to the Internet Service Provider rather than the web hosting system.
Many Internet Service Providers (ISP’s) do not allow their customers to send email using an outgoing mail (SMTP) server other than their own. So, in many cases your outgoing mail server will have to be set different than your incoming mail server.
To accommodate customers who have email accounts that do not allow relaying, most ISP’s have implemented a designated outbound SMTP mail server for you to be able to send your email. The following is a list of major ISP’s and their outgoing SMTP servers (local to the Las Vegas area) that will allow mail relaying, and how to configure the settings in Microsoft Outlook.
If your Internet Service Provider is not listed below; or, if you do not know the credentials or outgoing mail settings for your ISP, you will need to contact them for outgoing mail server set-up instructions.
Verizon Wireless' National Access and Broadband Access Services
To utilize SMTP you will need to do the following:
1. Change your Outgoing Mail Server to smtp.vzwmail.net. The steps to change the Outgoing Mail Settings will vary by email client. Please refer to your email client provider for instructions on how to change the setting.
2. Create a VText.com profile if you do not already have a Verizon Wireless VText.com profile. Visit www.vtext.com from your PC to register for free. A TXT Messaging capable data device or phone is required.
* The credentials to access the send mail server will be the 10-digit mobile number (used on VText.com) @vzwmail.net (i.e. 2025551212@vzwmail.net) for the user name. For the password use the password established on www.vtext.com.
NOTE: Credentials established on www.vtext.com may take up to twelve hours before they will work on the Verizon Wireless SMTP server. If your password works on www.vtext.com but not on the smtp.vzwmail.net server, try again in a couple hours. The Verizon Wireless SMTP server can be accessed from most ISPs (Internet Service Providers) eliminating the need to reconfigure settings when switching between Verizon Wireless and other networks.
Cox Hi Speed Internet Services
Cox requires all email messages sent from our network to go through Cox outbound (SMTP) servers. Any attempt to send email using a third-party outbound email server will result in an error message in your email software, and the message will not be delivered.
Vanity/Personal/Business Domain Names
Cox does not prevent the use of vanity domains as either the From or Reply-To address in your email header. However, if you use a vanity domain on your email, it must be a valid domain that can be resolved by the Domain Name System (DNS) servers. Any email sent with invalid domains in the From or Reply-To address fields will not be delivered.
1. * Change your Outgoing Mail Server to smtp.west.cox.net. The steps to change the Outgoing Mail Settings will vary by email client. Please refer to your email client provider for instructions on how to change the setting.
2. Enter your COX username and password when specified under My Outgoing Server (SMTP) requires authentication.
* Customers with cox business service will need to use smtp.lvcm.com
Embarq High Speed Internet Services
1. Change your Outgoing Mail Server to smtp.embarqmail.com. The steps to change the Outgoing Mail Settings will vary by email client. Please refer to your email client provider for instructions on how to change the setting.
2. Enter your Embarq username and password when specified under My Outgoing Server (SMTP) requires authentication.
AT&T Wireless Broadband
1. Change your Outgoing Mail Server to smtp.attwireless.net. The steps to change the Outgoing Mail Settings will vary by email client. Please refer to your email client provider for instructions on how to change the setting.
2. AT&T wireless will refuse authentication unless your email address is the same as your mMode email address. In your Email Client Account settings, enter your mMode email address, i.e. username@mobile.att.net
3. If you want replies to go your normal email address, enter it in the "Reply To" area (Edit Account | Identity | Reply To).
